Rioja Alavesa is the prettiest part of the region and in time we're sure people will see that this is where the best wines come from too

Rioja Alavesa

Whereas our Campos project is the equivalent of a ‘Zoom Out’ from Spain’s traditional DO system, focussing on macro regions and grape varieties, the Villages project is quite the opposite – a zoom in to a very specific type of climate and soil within a famous DO. In this case, our zoom goes from Rioja, down to Rioja Alavesa and then even more specifically to the village of Lapuebla de Labarca, perhaps the warmest area of Rioja Alavesa.

As with many small family wineries, Loli and Jesús own several pieces of vineyard in and around their home village of Lapuebla de Labarca. Each of these pieces of vineyard has its own curious history and each has its own name, which may have a geographical or social origin. La Sorda means ‘the deaf woman’ and this small plot of vineyard once belonged to an aunt who was a little hard of hearing!

La Sorda Viura

La Sorda Viura is a white wine made from 100% Viura, made from three different plots around Lapuebla de Labarca. It is fermented in stainless steel and aged on the lees for 3 months, but does not spend any time in an oak barrel.

La Sorda

La Sorda is a smooth blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo. By giving it just nine months in American oak barrels we generate a perfect balance between oak and fruit that ensures a positive development over 4 to 5 years.

La Sorda Reserva

La Sorda Reserva is made from a traditional blend of Tempranillo with a little Graciano and Mazuelo. This wine is aged for two to three years in American oak barrels followed by a length of time in bottle.

La Sorda Gran Reserva

La Sorda Gran Reserva is a homage to the villagers of Lapuebla de Labarca, including the elderly widows who wove the famous wire nets that went over the bottle as a guarantee of quality and origin. This wine is sold only in wooden cases.

La Sorda Tempranillo Edición Limitada

La Sorda Tempranillo is a special selection of a single plot of Tempranillo, fermented in open-ended individual barrels then aged for a further 12 months in French oak barriques. Limited to just 1200 bottles per vintage.

La Sorda Graciano

La Sorda Graciano is one of the few 100% Graciano wines in Rioja. Usually it is a grape which is used to add acidity and interest to a traditional Rioja blend, in very few cases does it produce a fine individual wine. This wine was fermented in oak vats and then aged for a year in French oak barrels.
